The former Lakers star Byron Scott has been fired as coach of
the New Orleans Hornets today and has now been replaced by
the General Manager Jeff Bower.

The owner of the New Orleans Hornets, George Shinn, said in
a statement that the decision now gives the Hornets the very
best opportunity “to reach our goals this season.”

The Hornets also made the announcement that former New Orleans head
coach Tim Floyd, who resigned as USC coach before this
season started, will be one of Bower’s top assistants.

New Orleans lost 124-104 at Phoenix on Wednesday, falling
to 3-6 to start off the season.

When Byron Scott took over as coach after the 2003-04 season, he
was the Hornets’ third coach in just three seasons. He was the
NBA coach of the year in 2008, when the Hornets finished
56-26. He was in the last year of his contract.

Worthy of note, Scott has quite often been mentioned as a
potential candidate to replace Phil Jackson as Lakers coach
whenever Jackson decides to step down.

The USA tennis great Serena Williams flaunts her well toned nude body on one of six covers of the ESPN Magazine’s “Body Issue”. The magazine will go on sale Friday October 9, 2009. The cover shot demurely covers the body parts that should be left to the readers imagination.

In what some people say is a bid to compete with the Sports Illustrated swim suit issue, the magazine will offer additional covers that include photographs of NFL star Adrian Peterson, mixed martial artist Gina Carano and NBA’s Dwight Howard. Even more athletes are due to be featured, and surfer Claire Bevilacqua, track and field event athlete Lolo Jones and triathlete Sarah Reinertsen are also rumored to be included in various states of undress.
